Report: Grupo Codere engages advisors for potential sale of over $2 billion

(AsiaGameHub) - Grupo Codere has allegedly hired Jefferies and Macquarie Capital to provide advisory services for the company’s planned $2.3 billion sale. Spanish business publication Expansion, through Reuters, reported on Wednesday that though the sale remains in its early phases, non-binding indicative bids are due by mid-May, and binding offers are anticipated in early July. A finalized deal is expected to be targeted prior to August. iGaming Expert has contacted Codere seeking comment regarding the reported sale and the appointment of Jefferies and Macquarie Capital as advisors. Codere operates both land-based and iGaming services across Europe and Latin America in regulated markets including Spain, Italy, Argentina, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, and Uruguay. The report further noted that the transaction will encompass the group’s digital division, Codere Online. The gaming operator is owned by roughly 84 investment funds, with Davidson Kempner serving as its largest shareholder holding a 13.3% stake. This ownership setup has remained in place since 2024, when a debt-for-equity swap transferred control of Codere from the founding Martinez Sampedro family. Codere has faced a turbulent 12 months, as its online division was at risk of being delisted from the Nasdaq Stock Market in May of the previous year after it missed the deadline to file its Form 20-F for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024. Within the following month, after fulfilling the stock exchange’s listing criteria, Codere Online successfully regained compliance with Nasdaq following the submission of the required form to the US Securities and Exchange Commission. For the fourth quarter of 2025, Codere Online announced a 15% rise in revenue, jumping from €52.7 million to €60.7 million, alongside quarterly and annual growth in active player counts: a 13% increase for the full 2025 year and a 20% uptick in Q4. Aviv Sher, Chief Executive Officer of Codere Online, stated: “In the fourth quarter of 2025, our net gaming revenue hit €60.7 million, which stands as the highest quarterly total in the company’s history. “This growth was primarily fueled by Mexico, where our net gaming revenue rose 31% following a 43% increase in our active customer base in the nation. In December, we reached a milestone of 100,000 active players in the country, putting us in a strong position for the upcoming summer World Cup.” Codere Online projects net gaming revenue of €235 million to €245 million and adjusted EBITDA ranging from €15 million to €20 million by the end of 2026. Code Isn’t Sufficient: What Truly Defines iGaming SaaS Platforms

(AsiaGameHub) - As AI continues to transform the software landscape, some voices in the tech industry are now questioning whether SaaS platforms are growing increasingly interchangeable. The common reasoning goes: if code can be generated extremely quickly, platforms are just products that can be copied at will. But in iGaming, where systems operate in regulated real-money environments, platforms carry responsibilities that extend far beyond the underlying code itself. Daniel Heywood, CEO at NuxGame, shares his perspective on this topic. Drawing on NuxGame’s experience as an iGaming software provider, he explores what truly sets mature industry platforms apart – years of hands-on operational learning, deep in-depth industry expertise, and strong connections across the entire iGaming ecosystem. iGaming Expert: Most current debates around AI and software assume that SaaS platforms are nothing more than collections of easily reproduced code. Is it misleading to frame iGaming SaaS platforms as interchangeable software products? Daniel Heywood: Yes, it is misleading, because in iGaming code is only the visible top layer. The real strength of a SaaS platform comes from the operational architecture built behind it. A full-fledged serious iGaming platform holds thousands of business rules: how payments perform under high traffic load, how KYC escalations are managed mid-session, how fraud signals interact with bonus mechanics, and what structure regulators require for compliance reporting. At NuxGame, for example, payment systems, compliance checks, and player protection controls are tightly integrated. If unusual activity is detected, the platform can trigger additional verification, adjust risk parameters, and log all relevant compliance data. That level of cross-system coordination is not something you can recreate just by developing new software from scratch. We see this same pattern in fintech. Many companies can now build a working payment app with AI tools, but very few can operate compliant infrastructure that meets the requirements of regulators and banks. Think of SaaS in regulated industries as an airport air traffic control tower. Any organization can buy planes. The critical, hard-to-replicate part is the control system that keeps all planes landing safely. iGX: If core technology can be generated quickly, why is the proven performance of top-tier iGaming platforms so difficult to replicate? DH: iGaming platforms constantly handle payment delays, unusual player behavior, regulatory updates, and sudden traffic spikes. Each of these challenges forces the system to adapt. Over time, these small adaptations become embedded as the platform’s built-in operational knowledge. At NuxGame, for instance, features such as loyalty points, tier levels, leaderboards, PvP battles, and Spin Wheels are shaped by real player behavior in live active markets. Operators customize these tools to structure player progression, reward activity, and add competitive dynamics. When these systems run in live gaming environments, they collect continuous behavioral data. This ongoing feedback gradually reveals which engagement mechanics sustain longer play sessions and repeat visits – insights that only come from real-world platform operation. In short, software can be written in months; operational maturity is earned over years of successfully running real-money platforms. That is a far longer investment than just rolling out a new feature. iGX: Operating an iGaming platform requires constant coordination with payment providers, regulators, and technology partners. How important are strong relationships and industry expertise when it comes to keeping these operations stable? DH: Strong relationships and industry expertise are absolutely critical, because managing an iGaming platform is rarely a purely technical task. Even small mistakes can quickly turn into costly problems in regulated markets. A misunderstanding of regulatory rules can delay a market launch. A poorly managed payment integration can interrupt player deposits. Entering a new jurisdiction without local knowledge can easily create compliance pitfalls that slow an operator’s expansion rollout. This is where experienced platform providers step in as operational partners. We work closely with our operator clients to address these business challenges within the NuxGame platform ecosystem. This work can include, for example, coordinating integrations with payment providers and prepping platforms to meet regulatory requirements before entering new markets. Figuratively speaking, strong relationships are the oil in a complex iGaming machine. When the industry runs at full speed (as it almost always does), less friction means fewer breakdowns and far fewer costly unexpected surprises. Frankly, that is something no piece of code can achieve on its own. iGX: When operators evaluate platforms, discussions often focus on features and integrations. In practice, what operational challenges should a mature iGaming platform solve for operators? DH: A mature iGaming platform should solve the practical challenges operators deal with every day, rather than just providing a list of software features. Payments are a great example. Operators need deposits and withdrawals to run seamlessly across multiple providers and currencies. When a provider slows down or experiences an outage, the platform must redirect transaction traffic and keep payments flowing. Uptime is another top priority. The platform has to stay stable during major sporting events or large marketing campaigns so users can keep playing without interruption. Compliance and new market launches are just as critical. Entering a new jurisdiction often requires adjusting reporting formats, updating responsible gaming tools, and modifying regulatory settings before the first player ever logs in. At NuxGame, we regularly help iGaming brands prepare for these launches while maintaining day-to-day operational stability. We see this same principle in industries like telecommunications or logistics: beyond just delivering technology, the infrastructure provider keeps the entire system running. iGaming platform providers operate the same way – as hands-on operational partners. At the end of the day, success in B2B iGaming depends on solving real operational problems. And that is why the true value of SaaS platforms lies in business logic, expertise, and relationships – never in code alone. This article is provided by a third-party. Allwyn: OPAP Merger to Shape the Future of iGaming

(AsiaGameHub) - Allwyn AG has finalized the business merger of Allwyn International AG and OPAP to establish the second-largest listed lottery and gaming operator, a transaction it believes can shape the future of the iGaming industry. The deal was first unveiled in October last year, proposed as an all-share transaction valuing the combined entity at €16 billion in equity. Allwyn has now integrated its lottery and gaming business with the Greek firm’s operations in Greece and Cyprus, with OPAP rebranding its consumer-facing brand to Allwyn. This move also builds on a longstanding partnership between the two entities, which began in 2013 when KKCG Group first invested in OPAP. The company already held a 51.8% stake in OPAP prior to this latest transaction. Anticipated outcomes for the combined company in driving growth and shareholder returns include: Leading market positions across multiple geographies and product lines. Diversification by region, product, and channel. Advanced technological, content, digital, and innovation capabilities. A robust financial profile and resilient cash generation. A focus on responsible gaming and contributions to good causes. Karel Komarek, Founder and Chair of Allwyn and KKCG, stated: “Today, Allwyn enters a new chapter—one that builds on the momentum already defining our business. “Over the past 13 years, we have demonstrated the significant and sustainable value we generate for shareholders, for society, and through the experiences we provide to players. This progress has been rooted in partnership, trust, and a genuine dedication to innovation. “Allwyn possesses exceptional potential in the fast-evolving realm of consumer entertainment, and we have the strategic clarity, scale, capabilities, and ambition to shape the future of the industry.” OPAP’s shareholders approved the transaction during an extraordinary general meeting in January 2026, with more than 93% of OPAP’s share capital remaining invested in the combined company after limited exercise of shareholder exit rights. “Allwyn has exceptional potential in the rapidly evolving world of consumer entertainment, and we have the strategic clarity, scale, capabilities and ambition to define the future of the industry.” Karel Komarek, Founder and Chair of Allwyn and KKCG Allwyn is projected to have 770,799,070 shares outstanding—excluding treasury shares—once the company completes the purchase of shares from shareholders who exercised their cash exit rights. Of these shares, 22% will form the free float, with the remaining shares continuing to be held indirectly by KKCG. Allwyn retains its intention to pursue an additional listing on another international stock exchange. Robert Chvatal, Allwyn CEO, added: “This marks a major strategic milestone for Allwyn, and we begin our journey as a publicly listed global leader with a strengthened platform, enhanced financial flexibility, and a world-class team. “We are highly confident that our leading market positions, high level of diversification, and strong cash generation position us well to drive sustainable growth and ongoing value creation as we invest in innovation and future opportunities across our markets. “I would like to thank our shareholders, employees, and regulators for their support as we unite two best-in-class organizations to create the second-largest listed lottery and gaming operator globally.” Allwyn structure Allwyn intends to distribute €0.80 per share to shareholders following the completion of share purchases related to the cash exit right, with a scrip option available and further details to be released soon. The company also expects to relocate its domicile from Luxembourg to Switzerland by the end of Q2 2026. Komarek will chair Allwyn, with Chvatal and Kenneth Morton continuing in their respective roles as CEO and CFO. OPAP CEO Jan Karas and CFO Pavel Mucha will remain at the helm of OPAP’s operations in Greece and Cyprus. The eight-member board of directors will include six existing Allwyn directors—including Komarek—along with two newly appointed independent non-executive directors. Novibet exit The OPAP deal was not Allwyn’s only pending transaction, as the company has been seeking to acquire a 51% stake in Novibet since December 2024. However, the Hellenic Competition Commission opposed the deal, prompting the company to terminate the transaction with Novibet’s owner, Logflex MT Holding Limited. The company stated: “While Allwyn and Logflex MT Holding Limited put forward carefully considered proposals to the HCC, Allwyn is committed to pursuing only transactions that would deliver clear value to shareholders. “Allwyn and Logflex MT Holding Limited therefore no longer expect the previously announced transaction to proceed.” Allwyn also completed its majority acquisition of PrizePicks in the US earlier this year, securing a 62.3% majority stake in the company for approximately $1.6 billion.

Estonian tax adviser’s dismissal called ‘unavoidable’ as she plans appeal

(AsiaGameHub) - The dismissal of the adviser responsible for an administrative mistake that will cost Estonia €4 million was described as 'unavoidable and necessary' by Chancellery Director Antero Habicht. An error in Estonia's Gambling Tax Act mistakenly exempted online casinos from taxation in 2026 before it was found in January. Despite this, the country is still poised to forfeit significant tax income due to the oversight. This week, the Estonian broadcaster Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR) stated the adviser behind the error was fired after disciplinary action. New reports now indicate that Piia Schults, previously unnamed, intends to appeal the decision legally. Responding in writing to the intended appeal, Habicht commented: "Considering all factors, this action was unavoidable and necessary; maintaining a trust-based working relationship was no longer feasible. "Current information suggests the official will seek judicial protection of her rights, and as a result, we deem further public commentary inappropriate." Habicht earlier informed ERR that Schults' dismissal was a consequence of a 'serious breach of official duties', noting the termination 'was not prompted by the error alone, but also by other case-related circumstances uncovered during the disciplinary process'. Estonia is currently phasing in a reduction of its gambling tax rate from 6% down to 4% by 2029, aiming to stimulate investment in its gambling industry and establish itself as a European iGaming center to rival jurisdictions such as Malta and the Isle of Man. ERR reports that a five-page directive from the Riigikogu Chancellery showed the official knew of the mistake on 5 January, yet superiors were not notified until 12 January, when ERR made the news public. In an interview with the outlet, Schults conceded the error was 'truly dreadful' and that it left her 'deeply shaken'. However, she highlighted her 32-year service as an adviser to the Economic Affairs Committee and that this was her first major mistake. Schults also denied Habicht's assertions, framing the situation as a 'question of principles'. She stated: "I must contest this. Maybe it will motivate other colleagues as well. You simply cannot treat someone like this. I will fight this for all of them, considering my colleagues and Estonian society. I believe the public has a right to know what occurs in the government sector. We are not isolated—we all coexist here in small Estonia, where everyone can see each other." Schults further mentioned she has consulted a lawyer and is inclined to pursue the dismissal case in court instead of through a labour dispute committee. This article is provided by a third-party. iGP to Offer Speed, Control and Scalability Through Gamzix Partnership

(AsiaGameHub) - iGP has expanded its content library with new iGaming titles after entering a fresh partnership with game provider Gamzix. Under the agreement, mobile-first titles from the studio will be added to the iGaming aggregator’s platform, with a rollout scheduled across multiple markets. Jovana Popovic Canaki, Chief Executive Officer at iGP, stated: “Operators are under continuous pressure to scale at a faster pace while retaining control over their brands, content, and player engagement. “Our iGaming Aggregator solves this pain point by combining high-speed distribution with in-built tools and real-time visibility. Integrating Gamzix’s content further expands the range of titles available to our partners.” iGP’s iGaming Aggregator provides partnered operators with access to over 12,000 titles from various game providers through a single API. The firm notes that the aggregator enables operators ‘to launch rapidly while maintaining control via multi-brand management, embedded promotional tools, an in-built reporting suite, and real-time data visibility’. James Davies, Head of Commercial at Gamzix, added: “iGP’s focus on speed, control, and scalability is perfectly aligned with our own approach to distribution and long-term performance. “We are excited to bring our mobile-first, engagement-focused titles to a wider network of partners through this collaboration.” Earlier this month, iGP’s Chief Marketing Officer, Michael Baker-Mosley, spoke to iGaming Expert about the significance of time and patience for iGaming integration work. Baker-Mosley explained: “If you want to deliver truly powerful gaming experiences, it requires time. We discuss this topic frequently in B2B spaces, but far less often in B2C. We are seeing growing product homogenisation, where operators now compete on experience rather than core product offerings. “If every operator carries the same top 10 slots globally, you are competing on brand and user experience. So getting that right, and successfully penetrating a new market, demands both time and investment.” This article is provided by a third-party. Digitain reinforces Bulgarian expansion with dual licences

(AsiaGameHub) - Digitain is strengthening its position in the Bulgarian iGaming market after obtaining both manufacturer and importer licences from the nation's gambling regulator. The manufacturer licence enables the provider to distribute its internally developed products to Bulgarian-licensed operators, with solutions that are fully certified and customized for the local market. Concurrently, the importer licence authorizes Digitain to offer certified third-party products within the Bulgarian market. Digitain stated that the licences underscore "its dedication to regulatory excellence and partner-focused expansion, guaranteeing that operators targeting Bulgaria can access a full range of compliant, premium solutions". Arshak Muradyan, Group Chief Compliance Officer at Digitain, remarked: "Obtaining both licences in Bulgaria represents a significant milestone in reinforcing our footprint across regulated markets. "This enables us to provide both our proprietary solutions and an extensive array of certified third-party products while adhering completely to local regulations. This dual capacity ensures our partners can confidently conduct business and expand within the Bulgarian market, backed by a dependable, fully compliant product portfolio." European growth Digitain has been expanding its footprint across European markets over the past 12 months, finalizing a partnership with KingCasino in Romania to deliver its sportsbook solution and Centrivo iGaming platform to the operator. The company has also previously commended its Malta presence for propelling its European growth strategy, having established a new office there within the past year. Aida Vardanyan, Chief Executive Officer at Digitain Malta, stated: "Our Malta office serves as more than a mere location—it functions as a strategic hub for our European operations. "It enables us to maintain close connections with our European partners, gain deeper insights into local requirements, and deliver more timely support. Operating from this location allows us to cultivate stronger relationships and fulfill our long-term vision of fostering enhanced regional partnerships." This article is provided by a third-party. Philippine authorities aim at Roblox in gaming cybercrime drive iGame

Philippine authorities aim at Roblox in gaming cybercrime drive

(AsiaGameHub) - The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its crackdown on cybercrime activities occurring on online gaming platforms, including the popular children's video game Roblox. This action follows concerns raised by prosecutors regarding elements within Roblox that bear resemblance to gambling, potentially exposing children to exploitation. The directive specifically targets issues of child exploitation and illegal gambling. Cybercrime crack down In an official statement issued on Sunday, PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. instructed the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) to bolster its efforts in combating illegal conduct facilitated through online gaming applications. The gaming platform Roblox was specifically named in connection with reports alleging its misuse for purposes such as "sexual predation, grooming and exploitation of minors." Chief General Nartatez stated: "Our mandate of serving and protecting the people now encompasses cyberspace to keep them safe, especially for children. This is what modern policing also means, and your PNP has been keeping up." The PNP has confirmed its ongoing collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) to investigate these allegations. Officials have clarified that the enforcement efforts are not limited to Roblox, indicating that other online gaming and social media applications are also under close observation. ‘Child gambling’ Roblox boasts over 111 million daily users, with approximately 40% being under the age of 13. Its systems involving randomized rewards and purchasable virtual items have attracted scrutiny from both regulators and academics. Research conducted by the University of Sydney, along with interviews with children and parents, has revealed that young users often struggle to comprehend in-game currency and random-reward mechanics. Some parents have described these features as 'child gambling,' and have characterized transactions as 'scams' and 'cash grabs.' This intensified focus on enforcement also reflects a broader international trend in regulation. In Greece, authorities have recently taken steps to enhance protections for young people amidst growing concerns about harms associated with online betting, including measures to limit exposure to digital gambling content and strengthen oversight of online platforms. Sportradar Launches Playradar to Revolutionize iGaming with Integrated Sportsbook and Casino Content

(AsiaGameHub) - Sportradar is transforming its iGaming services with the introduction of Playradar, a new brand created to unify sportsbook and casino offerings for global operators. Playradar will provide operators with a 'fully-integrated ecosystem of cross-vertical gaming experiences', under the leadership of former Playtech CEO Edo Haitin, who will serve as Executive Vice President of iGaming. The brand will function solely in regulated markets, beginning with an initial launch in the UK, North America, and Latin America. A schedule of game releases is planned for the year, covering classic table games, arcades, slots, and virtual reality, with responsible gaming and integrity built into every product. The company piloted its iGaming services in Brazil the previous year, using the outcomes to inform the launch of Playradar. DOCV warns that the latest GGL black – market estimates are ‘too conservative’, and the channelisation is still closer to 50% iGame

DOCV warns that the latest GGL black – market estimates are ‘too conservative’, and the channelisation is still closer to 50%

(AsiaGameHub) - Simon Priglinger-Simader, vice president of Germany's Deutscher Online Casinoverband (DOCV) trade association, has rejected the GGL's new 2025 channelisation statistics, labelling them as 'conservative' and incorrect. The GGL released a report exceeding 120 pages last week, estimating Germany's channelisation rate reached 77% in 2025. While the regulator evaluated different methods in the report, it ultimately conducted a survey of 2,000 people who had participated in online gambling (lotteries excluded) in the past year. Survey participants were questioned on whether they had used illegal operators during that time. Following his review, Priglinger-Simader stated the report was clearly flawed by "non-representative sampling," indicating the sample did not properly reflect those gambling on the black market. "Furthermore, there's a degree of recall bias when you ask someone if they are engaging in illegal gambling. Most likely, they will say no," Priglinger-Simader told iGB. He added, "The figures are not in line with the tax revenue numbers we are aware of." DOCV-commissioned 2023 report still more accurate on black market size In November 2023, the trade association published its own black market analysis, which found that as many as half of all players in Germany were using illegal sites. Priglinger-Simader asserts this assessment is more precise than the GGL's most recent report. "We still believe that, considering all the work done, a result showing a black market size of around 50% is much nearer to the real scale of the black market," he continued. The study was written by economist Gunther Schnabl from the University of Leipzig and utilised Nielsen gambling activity data to evaluate Germany's channelisation rate. This was merged with data on stakes placed on illegal sites, which Priglinger-Simader believes is probably significantly higher than current estimates indicate. Although the GGL's report stated black market Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) was €547 million in 2024, the trade body head calls this number "too conservative." "We believe the real turnover of illegal operators is far greater due to the abundance of bonuses, absence of player safeguards, no loss limits, no spin limits—essentially no regulations in the black market," he cautions. He also points out that licensed German operators have received feedback from customers stating they have switched to the black market to escape the strict controls and limitations imposed by the regulated market. "However, this information isn't robust enough for a case study to incorporate it [into the next analysis]," says Priglinger-Simader. Updated Schnable channelisation report expected soon A revised report from Schnabl is anticipated this summer, analysing 2025 data. "[They] are presently analysing 2025 figures using the Nielsen data panel from before and will produce an updated brief evaluation or perhaps a second edition of the study, possibly in June or July, around the summer," Priglinger-Simader added. Speaking on the report's methodology, he said, "They will use a refreshed list of illegal websites targeting Germany. Then it's essentially an update incorporating new illegal operators that have entered, along with the overall market evolution. For 2025, they have already compiled an updated list of illegal operators, as that landscape is very fluid and has changed over the past two or three years." Despite dismissing the GGL's latest figures, Priglinger-Simader concedes that the regulator's lowered channelisation estimate is a good indication it is beginning to comprehend the market better. Channelisation rate could be used to prevent Interstate Treaty review updates Back in June 2024, the regulator indicated the black market constituted only about 4% of the total sector. Priglinger-Simader is concerned, however, that this new data might be leveraged to the regulator's advantage during the current review of the German Interstate Treaty regulations. This review represents the licensed industry's sole opportunity for easing player restrictions such as compulsory deposit limits and slot stake limits. He cautions that the GGL could "use [the data] to claim everything is functioning perfectly, that no action is needed to bolster the legal [framework], and that licensed operators should simply carry on as before." The review is scheduled to finish next year. This article is provided by a third-party. AsiaGameHub (https://asiagamehub.com/) makes no warranties regarding its content. GLI Receives PAGCOR Certification to Oversee Philippine iGaming Testing

(AsiaGameHub) - Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) has been certified as the first gaming testing company by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). GLI will be tasked with testing and certifying iGaming platforms across the Philippines' gaming market, as PAGCOR continues to strengthen regulatory oversight throughout the industry. In April 2025, PAGCOR announced plans requiring B2B suppliers—such as content partners, aggregators, and payment providers—to secure official accreditation to supply operators nationwide. GLI indicated that this certification will assist the regulator in achieving its 'policy and regulatory objectives'. James R. Maida, GLI President and CEO, stated: "We are thankful to Alejandro Tengco and the entire PAGCOR team for their ongoing trust in GLI. "We are honored to be the first company accredited for iGaming testing and certification, and we anticipate working side- by-side with PAGCOR to fulfill their policy objectives." Businesses have until March 31 to obtain certification from GLI. Operators found to be collaborating with unaccredited vendors will be directed to terminate such partnerships, including via cease-and-desist notices. A recent LinkedIn post by Arden Consult disclosed that the regulator has begun requesting operators to submit lists of B2B suppliers for cross-verification with PAGCOR's records. Alejandro Tengco, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of PAGCOR, remarked: "We are pleased to recognize GLI as the first testing and game certification provider accredited in the Philippines under this new framework. GLI is a global leader in regulatory advisory, iGaming and EGM testing/certification, and data security. "PAGCOR now requires all iGaming B2B suppliers operating in the Philippines to be accredited to ensure adherence to the stringent requirements necessary to protect iGaming players." Tengco emphasized the necessity of a robustly regulated market to guarantee a 'safer and more sustainable gaming industry for all to participate in'. "Regulated gaming markets ensure a safer and more sustainable gaming industry for all to participate in. A regulated market enables compliance with responsible gaming standards and provides tax revenue for reinvestment into the community.," he added. This article is provided by a third-party. Study: Australian women worried marketing and CSR campaigns have ‘normalised’ gambling iGame

Study: Australian women worried marketing and CSR campaigns have ‘normalised’ gambling

(AsiaGameHub) - A recent online study of 525 Victorian women aged 18 to 40 has uncovered worrying trends in how modern gambling marketing in Australia is altering female attitudes towards betting. The research underscored how current promotional and public relations efforts have increased women's involvement in gambling while minimising its associated dangers. This qualitative online survey took place in Victoria, Australia, from 14 June to 1 July 2024. The participants, mostly residents of metropolitan Melbourne (76%) with an average age of 31, reported high recent gambling engagement, with 79% having placed a bet in the previous year. ‘It makes an addictive activity appear harmless’ Answers to open-ended questions revealed three main themes: gambling had been normalised; participation was strongly promoted; and players perceived less risk. Many women stated that modern marketing tactics have helped make gambling seem "normal" and socially acceptable for females. This is especially the case for campaigns using female celebrities or influencers, new betting options linked to entertainment, and sponsorships in women's sports. The survey reported that "Social media influencers were described as ‘relatable’ and ‘desirable’, and their involvement in gambling promotions was seen to make gambling seem glamorous and aspirational". Participants worried that framing bets as "fun", low-stakes, or tied to charity often concealed potential harms. Portraying gambling as "harmless" risked encouraging progression towards riskier behaviours and eventual financial loss. "I think there is a lot of harm in promoting gambling in this way for anyone," said one respondent. "It makes an addictive activity appear harmless." "They make it seem harmless and can become a light joke," said another participant. A large number of respondents felt gambling promotions appeared crafted to draw in new customers. This targeting was seen as particularly effective for younger women, by connecting betting products to their social lives and interests. Words like "encourage", "attract", and "tempt" were commonly used to describe this impact. Furthermore, by linking products to their hobbies, some women said it caused gambling to "feel normal". Some even suggested this normalisation could generate a "fear of missing out". ‘Pink-washing’ has its impact The study, conducted by researchers from Deakin University and Curtin University, pointed to player scepticism about gambling firms' use of gender-focused corporate social responsibility (CSR) campaigns. For instance, promotional ties to International Women’s Day or breast cancer awareness month were frequently viewed as strategic image management rather than authentic social contribution. Even while recognising these tactics as reputation-building, some women admitted they could unintentionally build trust in gambling brands, potentially making them more susceptible to marketing. A present-day study When designing the survey, the academics concentrated on the growing influence of social media marketing on platforms favoured by younger women, such as Instagram and TikTok. Australian data cited in the study indicated that annual gambling participation rates for women in Victoria are similar to men's, with around 50% gambling yearly and about a third doing so monthly. The authors noted similarities with sectors like alcohol and tobacco, where CSR and sponsorship have historically been used to burnish brand image and stall regulatory action. These worries reflect wider international trends. In Greece, authorities have recently acted to bolster protections for younger people against growing online betting harms, with a specific emphasis on curbing exposure to digital ads and promotional material. Likewise, recent German research connected a rise in gambling advertising to heightened risks for vulnerable players. The findings indicated that extensive promotional content helped normalise betting behaviour and deepen the involvement of at-risk individuals. What comes next? The researchers called for stronger regulatory steps, suggesting that limits should go beyond obvious gambling ads to include more subtle marketing forms. These encompassed influencer collaborations, novelty markets connected to popular culture, and CSR activities that act as indirect advertising. They also urged targeted public awareness initiatives to help women assess gambling promotions more critically and gain a clearer understanding of the related risks. Behind the Gloves: How Boxing is Driving Change in iGaming iGame

Behind the Gloves: How Boxing is Driving Change in iGaming

(AsiaGameHub) - From compliance experts mimicking Calzaghe to PR directors striking like Pernell Whitaker, the iGaming sector has developed a strong enthusiasm for combat sports in recent times. This goes well beyond simply enjoying a fight. According to the pair who have driven this rapid change, the culture within iGaming has evolved alongside the expanding events schedule. Both Lee McFarland and Julia Weygandt have praised the industry's attitude, a mindset that has allowed them to fast-track the expansion of Behind the Gloves and offer a fresh perspective on sector gatherings. Beginning with a simple pad workout in the park, neither McFarland nor Weygandt could have predicted that the Behind the Gloves project would resonate so deeply with the industry's passion as it does today. McFarland stressed: “What we have observed is the creation of a boxing and fitness community—boxing acts as the driving force—but it is about more than just boxing; it is about the community. You know, the value it provides to everyone, and that is the origin of this initiative. Personally, I understand how it benefits my daily life.” He also disclosed that in his youth, boxing provided him with stability and helped him mature, learning early on that ‘there is nothing more thrilling than trading punches and experiencing the excitement of the battle’. While Weygandt entered the boxing world much later in life, she also discussed ‘the incredible impact it has had on her lifestyle’. Highlighting the varied advantages of the sessions, she commended the effect of morning training and beginning the day on the right foot. Elaborating on her lifestyle change, she shared: “I just thought, I can’t keep doing this, going for a drink almost every day after work. So I got a personal trainer… I gave it a try, and I haven’t stopped since. It totally transformed my lifestyle.” “I woke up at 5 AM every day and went to the gym. I had significantly more energy at the office. I was far more focused and disciplined.” McFarland noted that this enthusiasm spreads throughout the workforce, arguing that ‘a fit and engaged team is happier and performs better’. “I speak frequently with the CEO of Captain Up, and he tells me about what we are doing and the value he sees it bringing to others. As an organisation, we are pleased to see that,” McFarland stated. “That is my surprise. I am surprised that commercial businesses are actually allocating funds to support the well-being of not only their staff but the broader industry.” On a personal level, McFarland added that boxing has consistently been the perfect solution for enhancing his mental health. He remarked: “I deal with daily stress. I have anxiety, like everyone else, so being able to release that in a controlled setting with a great group of people demonstrates just how beneficial boxing truly is.” One notable feature of the Behind the Gloves sessions is the diverse range of participants they welcome, catering to those who wish to spar before a day of meetings as well as those simply wanting to work out before a hectic conference schedule. The business rationale for these sessions lies not only in the productivity boost they provide for the rest of the day but also in the robust, if perspiring, networking opportunities they offer. It was easy to see the various levels of connection forming between industry peers as they traded punches or encouraged one another through burpees. This is a dynamic that many business stakeholders seek, often spending vast sums on traditional networking events. Weygandt remarked: “You encounter people you wouldn’t meet at a party because they avoid those types of events. Plus, you meet the genuine individuals. There are no suits, no business cards, and no makeup.” “Everyone is just there, getting sweaty. It leads to authentic conversations, meeting real people, and fostering a different type of relationship.” McFarland added: “No one attends with the specific goal of doing business. Yet, business has been conducted. People have connected. The community keeps thriving… it enables people to bond through shared effort and challenge.” The diverse audience being served continues to expand as the duo has started incorporating functional fitness classes alongside their boxing sessions. Weygandt did share a humorous story from Barcelona in January, however, where an attendee arrived for functional fitness—mouthguard in, hand wraps on, and ready to fight—only to realize they were in the wrong class and had to quickly adapt. The desire for a healthier lifestyle is palpable across the industry and undeniable—evidenced by the swift proliferation of fitness classes at industry events. Through word-of-mouth among friends and colleagues, an increasing number of industry professionals are arriving to work out before events and leaving feeling much more refreshed. To label the Behind the Gloves sessions merely as fitness classes does them a disservice; they are much more profound—they represent a broader movement toward a healthier and happier industry. This movement would not exist without the relentless dedication of McFarland and Weygandt, who consistently carve out time from their schedules to expand the fitness classes and invite experts to demonstrate a healthier alternative to the industry, applicable to both events and life in general. Weygandt has certainly noticed the shift, emphasizing that ‘in the past year or two, you could clearly see a change in the industry… we heard many people say they didn’t want to go out drinking every night’. “The surprise was the turnout being higher than anticipated, and the speed at which everything expanded.” Such growth would not have been achievable without the numerous sponsors who stepped forward to back the movement and facilitate its expansion, a fact both McFarland and Weygandt were eager to acknowledge. The industry’s passion for development, charitable support, and well-being is driven not just by the demand for 6 AM fitness sessions, but also by the palpable excitement for an event that has become a favorite for many: the SBC Charity Boxing Championships. Scheduled for this Friday, 27 March, the event embodies an industry undergoing a cultural shift and focused on backing good causes. For further details about the event, click here. IGT Reduces Workforce by 700 Employees Worldwide to Enhance Focus and Performance iGame

IGT Reduces Workforce by 700 Employees Worldwide to Enhance Focus and Performance

(AsiaGameHub) - IGT has verified a global workforce reduction of 700 employees, representing roughly 10% of its staff, as a component of business restructuring initiatives aimed at future expansion. An IGT spokesperson informed iGaming Expert that the job cuts are intended to facilitate the company's pursuit of sustained growth and to 'advance with increased focus, agility, and competitiveness'. The IGT spokesperson stated: “While we progress the merger of the former IGT and Everi operations, we are restructuring our organization to hasten innovation, enhance execution, and prepare the company for long-term growth. “To facilitate this upcoming stage, we are reallocating resources and refining our operational framework to concentrate on our most promising growth areas and strategic goals, which will affect around 700 employees worldwide, or 10% of our workforce. “We are grateful for these employees' contributions and dedication to our company, and we pledge to assist those impacted with severance, career placement assistance, and, when feasible, opportunities in other parts of the company. This strategic repositioning enables IGT to progress with heightened focus, agility, and competitiveness.” Employee letter The Las Vegas Review-Journal initially broke the news that CEO Hector Fernandez sent a letter to staff on Monday explaining that layoffs were essential “to match resources with business objectives and optimize operations, guaranteeing we are optimally prepared for future growth”. It is understood that severance packages will be offered to affected workers, though the precise distribution of job losses across different departments has not been revealed. As reported by the Review-Journal, Fernandez commented: “During our first all-company town hall in December after I began as the new CEO, I promised we would act swiftly to assess our business and implement changes to fortify it. “We have honored that pledge over the last few months. We analyzed our areas of focus, our operational methods, and how our organizational design underpins our strategy. This evaluation also compelled us to make some challenging choices regarding our organizational setup, resulting in a hard yet essential measure.” Fernandez further clarified that the layoffs are not a reflection of employee performance, but instead signify “the structural adjustments needed to function as a unified entity, utilize our collective advantages, and compete with concentration and rigor in a dynamic industry”. The CEO explained: “We have recently finalized a significant portion of the foundational work necessary for a more robust and competitive organization. The adjustments announced today are part of this initiative to simplify our architecture, eliminate redundancies, and allow us to operate with improved clarity and velocity.” To generate long-term value and provide superior service to partners, Fernandez indicated that IGT will center its strategy on five Cs: culture, capabilities, content, commercialization, and cash-flow generation. This renewed strategic emphasis is anticipated to help the business seize new growth prospects. “For those departing from IGT due to this action, we are dedicated to offering severance, outplacement aid, and transition support. For those staying, you might experience sorrow for your coworkers, worry about your teams, or apprehension about what lies ahead. Such emotions are understandable in situations like this,” Fernandez added. “Our current focus must be on how we proceed collectively: by supporting each other, concentrating on our key priorities, and persisting with the work that will shape our company's next phase. We united to construct a company capable of leading in a fast-changing industry, and I continue to be optimistic about that potential and the resilience of our team.” Apollo Global Management purchased the Gaming & Digital division of IGT and Everi Holdings last July for $6.3 billion, establishing a new privately-owned global entity in gaming, digital, and financial technology under the IGT name. The transaction merged two prominent iGaming companies into a unified organization with three primary divisions – Gaming, Digital, and Fintech. Upon finalizing the acquisition, it was anticipated that IGT would use its expanded presence to boost efficiency and innovation in both land-based and digital sectors, solidifying its role as a crucial partner for regulated gaming markets and casino operators globally. iGaming Expert has contacted Apollo for a statement regarding the report of IGT's plan to cut 700 jobs worldwide. India Blocks 300 Websites in Black Market Operation

(AsiaGameHub) - India’s government has ongoing efforts to fight the nation’s black market, blocking around 300 websites that promote illegal gambling and betting. Per the Economic Times, online sports betting sites, casino applications, and betting exchanges were among the platforms hit by the government’s move. The government has acted against more than 8,400 websites and mobile apps, reporting that it has blocked 4,900 since the Promotion and Regulations of Online Gaming Bill 2025 was passed in August 2025. The choice to implement such severe measures stemmed from worries about the sector’s societal effects. But the rapid passage of the bill surprised many in the industry. In the days and weeks following the landmark ruling, major local operators including Dream11 and the Mobile Premier League, along with international companies like Flutter, had to pull their RMG operations. For Flutter specifically, the company later disclosed that the ruling resulted in a $556 million impairment charge tied to removing its Junglee product from India, plus a substantial hit to future revenue. After the decision, Flutter expressed worries that the ruling would drive players to the black market, and recent data from the All India Gaming Federation has shown the persistent demand for gaming among India’s people. The organization’s report found that unlicensed betting platforms got more than 1.6 billion visits in a three-month period. While Indian authorities have taken steps to block access to these sites, the latest data shows that these efforts aren’t achieving the intended result. Notably, illegal operators are using mirror websites to help users bypass blocking rules. Researchers proposed that creating a resource that lists legal and illegal platforms might be an effective method to help players better understand if they’ve ended up on the black market. “These lists should be regularly updated and, when feasible, made publicly available in a user-friendly format so consumers can easily tell the difference between legitimate and illegal operators,” the report added. iGaming Expert Analysis: The striking numbers highlight that the Indian government’s severe and sudden regulatory steps last year have opened the door for the black market. Considering the market’s size and the adaptability of unlicensed operators, this will be a difficult and long-fought battle for the government. This article is provided by a third-party. Cardoso named new permanent leader of Brazil’s SPA

(AsiaGameHub) - Daniele Cardoso has been named the new permanent head of Brazil's betting regulator, the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), this week, following two months in an interim role. Cardoso's permanent appointment was revealed in a Monday post on X by Dario Durigan, who took over as Brazil's finance minister from Fernando Haddad last week. Cardoso joined the SPA in November 2024, initially serving as general coordinator for responsible gambling monitoring, before being appointed deputy secretary. Later, in late January, following Regis Dudena's departure, Cardoso was named interim head of the SPA. Dudena, who had led the SPA since February 2024, vacated the role to assume leadership of the Secretariat of Economic Reforms. Similar to Dudena, Cardoso has a legal background, holding a law degree from Feira de Santana University. Cardoso’s immediate priorities as SPA chief Following Dudena's departure, sources informed iGB that the permanent successor was anticipated to be either Cardoso or Fabio Macorin, the SPA's Undersecretary of Monitoring and Inspection. Nonetheless, Cardoso was the one who signed the SPA's 2026/27 regulatory agenda, which the agency unveiled in February. Executing the agenda's work is expected to be Cardoso's primary focus in her new permanent role, with the SPA aiming to enhance Brazil's licensing procedures and assist in combating the still-widespread black market. A new challenge to address is the recent entry of prediction market operator Kalshi into the Brazilian market, as the SPA has recently raised concerns about the presence of prediction markets. Following Kalshi's announcement of its launch in Brazil—its first market outside the US—the SPA stated that no Brazilian companies are authorized to provide prediction markets in the country. “The prediction market is included in the Secretariat's internal analysis agenda, with initial studies currently ongoing,” the SPA noted. It remains unclear whether prediction markets will fall under the SPA's jurisdiction or that of the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission. Another challenge comes in the form of increasing political pressure, with ongoing efforts to restrict the licensed fixed-odds betting sector. Earlier this month, Senator Eduardo Girão introduced a bill aiming to limit customer retention by prohibiting certain methods, including loyalty programs and cashback. Thai influencer handed a jail sentence for promoting illegal gambling

(AsiaGameHub) - A social media content creator based in Thailand has been handed a prison sentence after being convicted of unlawfully promoting gambling services to her followers. According to reports from Thaiger News, 24-year-old Narumon “Mind”, who has more than 740,000 followers on Facebook, advertised a gambling platform via her social media story posts, while her account also hosted dance videos posted alongside links to gambling sites. The Don Mueang District Court initially issued a six-month prison term to the influencer, which was reduced to three months after she admitted to the offenses, with the remaining part of the sentence converted to a two-month detention order. Thailand’s Police Cyber Taskforce launched investigations into her activities, and authorities have confirmed they are continuing to probe the online gambling network that Narumon promoted. Police Major General Siriwat Deephor also issued a warning to influencers against sharing gambling-related content, noting that anyone who engages in such behavior will face scrutiny from cyber police. In Thailand, nearly all forms of gambling are illegal, with only the national lottery and horse race betting at licensed tracks permitted. The country’s leader, Anutin Charnvirakul, has long been a vocal critic of gambling, and has repeatedly stated that regulatory reforms to introduce looser gambling rules in Thailand will not be rolled out during his time in office. His leadership was formalized last week after his Bhumjaithai Party secured 191 seats in Thailand’s 500-member parliament, and the coalition government formed after the election voted to re-elect Charnvirakul to his post. Last year, the Don Mueang District Court also sentenced another Thai influencer, Aspara “Earn Earn”, to three years in prison for similarly urging her followers to participate in online gambling activities. In other parts of Asia, authorities in the Philippines have also continued their efforts to target influencers accused of working with illegal gambling operators. Earlier this month, the country’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Centre (CICC) announced it is taking action against ten influencers in partnership with PAGCOR, the Philippines’ gaming regulator, and Digital Pinoys, a government-supported digital advocacy group. The latest updates from the CICC come after comparable warnings were issued to a group of 30 influencers back in November. At that time, CICC Undersecretary Renato Paraiso stated that the influencers could face charges for violating the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, Presidential Decree No. 1602, which imposes harsher penalties for illegal gambling, and Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code covering estafa. If they are prosecuted, the influencers could face fines and possible prison sentences under the Philippines’ cybercrime and gaming regulatory rules. This article is provided by a third-party. Blue One Casino in South Korea, previously known as Jeju Sun, to promote ‘stay-oriented tourism’ iGame

Blue One Casino in South Korea, previously known as Jeju Sun, to promote ‘stay-oriented tourism’

(AsiaGameHub) - CSA Cosmic, a South Korean cosmetics company that is set to become the majority shareholder of Blue One Casino on Jeju Island, aims to attract more VIP visitors through luxury offerings that merge beauty and leisure. The company, which is listed on KOSDAQ and headquartered in Seoul, produces cosmetics and building materials. It plans to invest KRW3.5 billion ($2.36 million) in Blue One, which operated as Jeju Sun under its previous owner, Philippines-based Bloomberry Resorts Corp. The venue reopened under its new name on March 16. Of the total investment, KRW1.3 billion will be used to buy convertible bonds, while KRW2.2 billion will be provided as cash loans. Through a debt-to-equity conversion, the loan will be transformed into shares, establishing CSA as Blue One's biggest shareholder. Blue One intends to separate its hotel and casino operations into distinct entities, with CSA Cosmic taking over the casino business. "Our involvement in this casino operation represents not merely an external expansion, but rather establishing a foundational platform for structural growth that integrates beauty and leisure," CSA Cosmic stated. The company committed to "boosting shareholder value by optimizing the synergies between our current brand transformation and new ventures." According to Chosun Biz, CSA Cosmic will launch a visitor package that merges "K-beauty experiences" with "exclusive VIP tourism services" targeting international clientele. Can Blue One succeed where Bloomberry failed? KH Holdings, Blue One's parent company, purchased the former Jeju Sun property from Bloomberry Resorts earlier this month. The acquisition cost KRW7 billion, with a remaining payment of KRW3 billion scheduled for February 2027. The transaction signaled Bloomberry's departure from South Korea's casino sector, though the company retains leases on the gaming areas and continues managing the hotel and food and beverage facilities. Bloomberry initially bought Jeju Sun (then called THE Hotel Vegas) in 2015. Enrique Razon, Chairman and CEO of Bloomberry, later acknowledged that the purchase was a mistake, citing South Korea's strict prohibition on gambling by local residents. Kangwon Land, located in the remote Gangwon Province, remains the sole casino accessible to South Korean nationals. "When local residents are barred from gambling, you cannot develop a genuine property or a true resort," Razon commented in 2020. "The operation will always remain small, essentially a niche business, and will likely struggle to expand." Bloomberry Resorts chief Enrique Razon Jr. has blamed the former Jeju Sun casino's poor performance in South Korea on restrictions against local gambling. Kangwon Land, shown above in a mountainous former mining area, is the only venue where South Koreans are permitted to gamble. During the first half of 2025, Jeju Sun posted gross gaming revenue of PHP6.2 million, representing a decline of PHP45.1 million compared to the same timeframe in 2024. The hotel and food and beverage divisions produced revenue of PHP183.3 million in the first six months of 2025, marking a modest 1.1 percent rise. KH Holdings aims to improve on these results. The company has noted a transformation in tourism expenditure trends, moving away from "shopping-focused trips" toward "experience and entertainment-driven travel." Blue One will "advocate for a stay-centric tourism approach by persuading overseas guests to extend their visits and raise individual spending," according to the company. The casino will concentrate on table games to achieve "consistent revenue expansion and financial success" within the high-end market. Bipartisan US Bill Aims to Prohibit Casino-Style Games on Prediction Markets iGame

Bipartisan US Bill Aims to Prohibit Casino-Style Games on Prediction Markets

(AsiaGameHub) - A bipartisan group of US senators has introduced legislation aimed at prohibiting ‘casino-style games’ and sports-related contracts on prediction market platforms, according to various reports. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) noted that the bill would apply to entities overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), including prediction platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket. NBC News has also confirmed the bill's introduction to the US Senate. Senators Adam Schiff and John Curtis are co-sponsoring the measure, marking the first bipartisan Senate effort to regulate the prediction market sector. They contend that these markets should be managed at the state level. According to the WSJ, Schiff remarked: “The CFTC is currently authorizing and even encouraging the growth of these markets. Congress must act to shut down this loophole, which bypasses state consumer protections, infringes on tribal sovereignty, and generates no public tax revenue.” If enacted, the legislation would prevent prediction markets from hosting ‘casino-style games’ such as video poker, slots, blackjack, and bingo on their sites. Curtis added: “A significant number of young people in Utah are being introduced to addictive sports wagering and casino-style contracts that ought to be under state oversight, rather than federal authority.” A divisive industry topic Prediction markets show no signs of slowing down, quickly becoming a polarizing subject within the iGaming sector as sports betting and online casinos expand worldwide. While certain operators, including FanDuel and DraftKings, have incorporated this vertical into their business, other industry figures have been vocal in their criticism. Earlier this month, Entain CEO Stella David argued that prediction markets facilitate underage gambling in the US. She pointed out that many CFTC-regulated platforms allow users as young as 18, while most states set the legal gambling age at 21. David stated: “When individuals engage with sports prediction markets, the experience is identical to sports betting in form and function. There should be no confusion: it is sports betting. “In the US, the legal age is 21, yet 18 to 21-year-olds are accessing these markets, often in states where online sports betting is not even regulated.” Some US states are already taking legal action against these platforms. For example, a Nevada judge recently issued a 14-day injunction preventing Kalshi from offering sports event contracts in the state. Global reactions vary; New Zealand recently moved to ban such platforms, and a judge in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has prohibited Polymarket. Conversely, Liberia has established a regulatory framework to authorize prediction markets. Adam Greenblatt, CEO of BetMGM—the joint venture between Entain and MGM Resorts International—contends that prediction markets are currently operating illegally within the US. Greenblatt commented: “Our stance is firm and aligns with nearly 40 state attorneys general, our regulators, and tribal partners. Under current law, sports prediction markets are effectively illegal sports wagering. “Operators in this space are not required to provide the consumer protections that licensed sports betting companies do. They lack responsible gaming standards, self-reporting requirements for compliance issues, and obligations regarding whistleblowing or information sharing.” This article is provided by a third-party. Hub88 integrates Tequity content into its aggregation platform

(AsiaGameHub) - Hub88 has embarked on a new content journey by adding titles from iGaming provider Tequity to its aggregation platform. Global operators partnered with Hub88 can now enhance their platforms with Tequity’s titles through a single API, including Tequity’s Originals collection of 17 in-house games described as ‘fast, streamer-friendly and fully customisable’. Crypto Trading games and Publishing vertical content are also included in the Tequity-Hub88 partnership, broadening the range of offerings available to the aggregation platform’s operator partners. Ollie Castleman, Hub88’s Managing Director, stated: “We’re delighted to bring Tequity onto the Hub88 platform. “Their mix of Originals, new Crypto Trading games, and Publishing content provides our operator partners with more options for unique games, backed by a simplified path to launch.” This partnership with Tequity allows Hub88 to further expand the content library on its aggregation platform, building on deals signed earlier this month with companies like 7Rings Gaming, DEGEN Studios and LuckyDraw. Dominic Sawyer, Tequity’s Vice President of Growth, added: “Hub88 is a robust distribution partner for operators and studios looking to scale their operations. “This integration simplifies access to Tequity’s content—including Originals, Crypto Trading games, and Publishing—for Hub88’s operator clients. We’re launching with a clear emphasis on quick deployment and brand control, and several partners are set to join in the upcoming weeks.” Earlier this year, Hub88 also enhanced its insight into player behavior by introducing a new Player Analytics tool. The tool is designed to deliver ‘powerful segmentation, in-depth player insights and advanced risk detection’, compiling player analytics from multiple data silos into a single interface. Castleman observed: “Modern operators frequently struggle with raw data due to high volumes of player activity. The Player Analytics tool lets teams understand player behavior both broadly and in detail, without needing manual processes or specialized staff. “Operators deserve clarity, speed and actionable insights, and through this new tool, they can make more informed decisions confidently.” This article is provided by a third-party. Roblox under scrutiny in the Philippines over child exploitation concerns

(AsiaGameHub) - Philippine officials have been instructed to step up probes into crimes being carried out via online gaming applications, with Roblox among those under scrutiny. The Philippine National Police's (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group has been ordered by PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. to investigate, as he noted that platforms such as Roblox are being exploited to prey on young children. He stated: "Our duty to serve and protect citizens now extends to cyberspace to ensure their safety, particularly for children. "The PNP is collaborating with other agencies to examine how Roblox might be utilized for potential offenses, such as sexual predation, grooming, and the exploitation of minors." The PNP intends to partner with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Centre (CICC) to support its inquiries. Roblox reports that the platform has more than 111 million daily users, with roughly 40% under the age of 13. The platform has repeatedly drawn attention, with critics cautioning that its randomized rewards, loot box-style prizes, and in-game currency systems resemble gambling mechanics. Roblox's terms and conditions indicate that while gambling-related content is permitted on the platform, actual gambling is prohibited. However, a report published last year by the Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) highlighted concerns about third-party sites where the game's virtual currency, Robux, can be wagered and won in betting and casino-style games. A DGA statement noted: "Roblox is especially popular among children and adolescents under 18. Consequently, Robux betting poses a risk as it enables many minors to engage in gambling activities through this currency system. "On nearly all unauthorized Robux betting sites, users can log in with their Roblox credentials. This raises concerns because the Roblox login is linked to the legitimate gaming platform, potentially making it easier for young people to access gambling." Report finds Stake dominates operator visibility across livestreaming platforms

(AsiaGameHub) - According to a 20 March report from livestreaming analytics firm Stream Hatchet, Stake is by far the most frequently referenced operator on livestreaming platforms. The analysis revealed that Stake appeared in 6,600 stream titles on Twitch and Kick during January 2026, representing 60% of total iGaming brand mentions. 1xBet placed a distant second with 1,800 mentions, trailed by Betano (837), Winamax (653), FanDuel (597), Bet365 (214) and PokerStars (270). Kick is owned by Stake's parent company—a connection that Stream Hatchet content manager Mark Rowland credits for Stake's commanding lead in the rankings. "Many Kick streamers receive a bankroll directly from Stake, which they use to gamble during their broadcasts," Rowland told iGB. He noted that numerous operators establish commercial partnerships with streamers, frequently providing complimentary account credits for betting purposes, and in exchange, streamers typically feature the brand name in their stream titles. Kick the leading platform for gambling livestreams Although Twitch holds the biggest market share in livestreaming, rival Kick maintains an explicitly pro-gambling streaming policy that has drawn many leading gambling content creators to its service. The research showed that all ten of the top iGaming livestreamers broadcast on Kick, collectively generating 88.4 million hours of iGaming content viewership in January. Trainwreckstv, among the first creators to migrate to Kick following its 2022 launch, recorded the highest iGaming content watch time at 15.7 million hours. Rowland suggested that beyond Stake, other operators' sponsorship of esports tournaments and various competitions broadcast on streaming platforms likely boosted their visibility. "1xBet backs several esports teams, and naturally esports draws significant viewership on livestreaming platforms. Additionally, both 1xBet and Betano sponsor football clubs, and football enjoys massive popularity on streaming services, especially in Latin America and Spain," Rowland explained. Image credit: Stream Hatchet While Twitch permits some gambling content, the Amazon-owned platform's terms of service forbid users from streaming specific gambling sites such as Stake and Rollbit, referencing inadequate consumer safeguards and licensing issues. Twitch revised its policies to prohibit these sites following pushback from parts of the livestreaming community. "The issue sparked major controversy in 2022 when prominent streamers such as Pokimane raised concerns about the risks of gambling content fostering addictive behavior, especially among younger audiences," Rowland added. Prediction markets gaining streaming popularity The report also identified that prediction market content is expanding and stimulating discussion on livestreaming platforms, with Polymarket and Kalshi commanding the betting-related conversation on Twitch and Kick. Stream Hatchet discovered that Polymarket led all betting and prediction market operators with 12,000 mentions in January 2026, with Kalshi close behind at 11,700. FanDuel placed third with 8,800 mentions, followed by PrizePicks (5,300) and DraftKings (3,300). This article is provided by a third-party. The Bolivia Gaming Control Authority Awarded Over 1,200 Licenses in 2025 iGame

The Bolivia Gaming Control Authority Awarded Over 1,200 Licenses in 2025

(AsiaGameHub) - The Autoridad de Juegos (AJ), Bolivia's Gaming Control Authority, reported on March 18 that it granted 1,226 domestic gambling licenses in 2025. The authority did not specify the breakdown between B2C and B2B licenses. Furthermore, the AJ stated it had utilized over 90% of its 2025 budget, simultaneously enhancing regulatory supervision and enforcement activities nationwide. The year's funding for the AJ was allocated to regulating and overseeing lotteries, gambling operations, raffles, and business promotions throughout the country. In 2025, organizers of promotional events and raffles distributed prizes totaling 573 million bolivianos (equivalent to $82.8 million). Regarding the quantity of licenses issued within the sector, the regulator commented that this "demonstrated the interest of operators in conducting their activities within the established legal framework." This update was presented during a virtual hearing on March 18, fulfilling Bolivia's constitutional mandate for public entities to report on their operational performance and resource deployment. Nationwide Enforcement Campaign Targets Unlicensed Operators Throughout the 12-month period, efforts to combat the black market were intensified, with the AJ carrying out raids on 82 illicit gambling venues. These operations resulted in the confiscation of 119 gambling devices and the destruction of 230 illegally operated machines and equipment across Bolivia. Recent enforcement actions also involved specific interventions in Cochabamba's peri-urban zones, where authorities dismantled unauthorized gaming establishments operating without regulatory supervision. Within the same timeframe, the authority's operational procedures received ISO 9001:2015 certification from Colombia's ICONTEC after an external audit. This represents a notable advancement toward standardizing regulatory practices within the Bolivian market and the broader Latin American region. Bolivia's gambling market has seen swift expansion, fueled by retail lotteries, raffles, and a rise in promotional business endeavors. Nevertheless, concerns regarding integrity in sports betting have underscored the necessity for robust regulatory supervision. In February, the football sector came under renewed examination due to allegations of match-fixing involving players from Club Real Santa Cruz. This article is provided by a third-party. Yes.com Prepares for Ultra-Lean European Launch

(AsiaGameHub) - While gearing up for its Denmark debut, Malta-headquartered gaming firm Yes.com claims to have crafted the most streamlined market entry approach, even as Europe's iGaming sector faces increasingly stringent limitations. Yes.com's founding team is wagering that artificial intelligence combined with sophisticated automation will serve as the critical link allowing the brand to expand throughout European iGaming territories. A newly formed igaming venture headquartered in London and Malta has secured the premium Yes.com domain, with leadership from co-CEOs Georgi Pepelyanko and Mads Vincent Jørgensen—previously senior executives at Kindred Group and FDJ United. Supporting the co-CEO pair are Chief Marketing Officer Antti Tikka, who formerly served as Kindred Group's Regional Director for Finland, along with Chief Technical Officer and IT Engineer Durgesh Dandotiya. The founding team collectively boasts five decades of experience in iGaming platform development, positioning Yes.com as a contemporary igaming ecosystem where automation fuels expansion, drives CRM functionality, and molds every user interaction. Scheduled for a 2026 market entry, Yes.com is establishing itself as a next-wave contender founded on automation-powered growth and CRM enhancement. Its central offering involves constructing an AI-heavy ecosystem covering both sports betting and casino gaming. The company has articulated its primary objective: developing a platform engineered to speed up partner rollouts while simultaneously cutting fixed expenses that typically pose major obstacles for emerging competitors. AI-built challenger Yet, moving beyond product scope, the firm's main emphasis centers on the platform's development methodology and operational framework. Antti Tikka – Yes.com In a LinkedIn statement, Tikka explained: "Yes.com represents a casino and sports wagering entertainment hub launching in Denmark. The challenge is to create a more modern and engaging experience than the category has traditionally delivered. "Beginning with a blank slate eliminates legacy technology and obsolete procedures that could hinder progress. Automation and AI form the core of our entire operation—encompassing product development, CRM, user experience, and internal processes." Denmark will function as the company's debut market, demonstrating a firm dedication to growth across Europe's regulated landscapes, where regulatory requirements, legal constraints, and distribution challenges constantly transform operator approaches. Instead of chasing rapid multi-territory growth, Yes.com will implement a careful, controlled launch in Denmark, targeting expansion into further European markets within the upcoming two-year period. The platform will adhere completely to European regulatory requirements and will integrate conventional responsible gaming features including deposit caps, self-exclusion options, and reality verification systems. Nevertheless, these safeguards represent minimum standards in licensed jurisdictions, providing scant competitive edge in a well-established industry. Consequently, Yes.com needs to demonstrate its value as a preferred development partner for European iGaming operators during its global expansion efforts. This article is provided by a third-party. Could a UK ban on unlicensed gambling sponsorships jeopardize white label partnerships? iGame

Could a UK ban on unlicensed gambling sponsorships jeopardize white label partnerships?

(AsiaGameHub) - Legal specialists think the white label gambling sponsorship framework shouldn’t face jeopardy if the UK government enforces a ban on unlicensed gambling sponsorships within football. This measure is under consideration through industry consultations, which the Department for Culture, Media and Sport stated is a response to the increasing threat of the black market in the UK. The aim would be to prevent non-UK-licensed companies from using Premier League clubs to target British consumers. In a statement dated 23 February, the government cautioned that the black market is connected to organized crime and that unlicensed operators “expose customers to fraud and identity theft risks”. A number of Premier League clubs currently have partnerships with unregulated operators. That said, there’s another model allowing non-UK operators to collaborate with licensed counterparts to provide a white label version of their product in the UK as part of a gambling sponsorship agreement. At this stage of the DCMS process, it remains unclear how this model might be affected. White label model not a threat if govt prioritizes consumer protection A lawyer who collaborates closely with clubs on operator sponsorship agreements notes that white label sponsorships shouldn’t be endangered if the government’s focus is on eliminating money laundering and payment practices that put British consumers at risk. “The white label model isn’t impacted by that because there’s a party that legitimately processes payments from British consumers in a compliant manner,” she points out. Melanie Ellis, a partner at Northridge Law, thinks the future for white label partners is somewhat unclear. She proposes that the government might aim to block sponsorships from gambling brands that use a white label setup to advertise in Great Britain while also running their own sites licensed in other jurisdictions. UK Gambling Minister Baroness Twycross stated in December last year that white label football sponsorships were under scrutiny. This came after reports that Curaçao-licensed BC Game was operating illegally in several markets and had been declared bankrupt by a local court for failing to pay out player winnings. Back then, BC Game quickly lost its UK white label license, and its sponsorship agreement with Leicester City was called into doubt. “I believe the government will most likely seek to ban gambling operators from sponsoring clubs if they are not ‘subject to’ a Gambling Commission license—this would let sponsorships under the white label model continue,” Ellis explains. “Crafting such a ban that operators can’t get around, yet doesn’t accidentally restrict other setups where a licensee runs gambling sites under various brands, will be difficult.” She thinks this step would mirror the government’s worries about unlicensed brands luring British players. “When a white label partnership is in place, British consumers should be directed to the licensed site when looking for the advertised brand.” How long might it take to put the unlicensed sponsorship ban into effect? Regarding when the possible ban might take effect, amending or updating legislation in the UK is usually a time-consuming process. “I expect they’d want to table something before summer,” the legal source comments. “The timeline reflects a phase of discussions between the Gambling Commission and DCMS about whether legislative changes or other steps are needed,” Ellis states. “I expect the [two parties] will want to roll out this [ban] within a fairly short period, but I think at least 18 months will be required to finish the consultation process and get the necessary legislation approved and enacted.” Licensed operators commend the consultation Over recent years, UK football has seen numerous questionable deals that have stalled after brands exited the UK market. Last year, Stake kept its multi-year front-of-shirt agreement with Everton even though a Gambling Commission investigation revoked its UK license. However, the government has not provided clear guidance in such cases. Clubs have been advised to conduct due diligence on operators. Entain CEO Stella David recently alleged that the Premier League is lobbying the government to “keep unregulated gambling brands on shirt sleeves and stadium signs.” In a February letter to the League, she further stated that its “ongoing support for illegal gambling sponsorships [has] been extremely worrying.” David is one of several licensed operators who have lauded the DCMS consultation, which the department said would launch “this spring.” This article is provided by a third-party. German security researcher claims responsibility for MGA breach

(AsiaGameHub) - A German security researcher has admitted to compromising the systems of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), reportedly accessing confidential data such as operator compliance documents and player records. Lilith Wittmann, who identifies as an ethical hacker, claimed last week in a since-deleted social media post that she possessed evidence tying the regulator to organized crime within Malta's gambling industry. On March 17, the MGA publicly confirmed a security incident within one of its systems and engaged its internal response protocols, stating that the matter is being treated with the highest priority. The authority refrained from revealing specific details about the nature of the compromised data. Wittmann confessed to the hack in a tweet on March 20, adding, "And yes, we will expose the organised crime enablement schemes you created while presenting yourselves as a ‘legitimate public service’." MGA condemns Wittmann breach The MGA issued a follow-up statement on Friday condemning Wittmann's actions, describing them as "unacceptable and incompatible with lawful engagement with public institutions and established governance frameworks." The regulator asserted, however, that Wittmann's allegations are "unsubstantiated and do not undermine the MGA’s role as a regulator committed to transparency, due process and the rule of law". "The Authority operates within a robust legal and regulatory framework and carries out its statutory functions with integrity, independence and accountability," the statement continued. Wittmann has a history of involvement in ethical hacking within the gambling sector. In March 2025, she revealed a significant player data breach across German gaming platforms operated by Merkur Gaming. The breach exploited unsecured APIs, exposing approximately 800,000 player accounts through an unprotected endpoint. At that time, she wrote in a blog post that she utilized a GraphQL query to access highly sensitive player data, including financial information and sign-up details. The incident prompted scrutiny regarding the security measures operators and their third-party providers should employ to protect players. The German regulator (GGL) did not take a strict enforcement approach against the companies involved at the time. Wittmann, however, warned of the risk that the GGL could be implicated if hackers used the breached information to steal further player data from the regulator itself. German hacker Lilith Wittmann claims responsibility for MGA data breach

(AsiaGameHub) - A German hacker has taken credit for breaching the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and promised to reveal the 'organised crime facilitation schemes' that the regulator is purportedly engaged in. Lilith Wittman published her declaration on X following the MGA's confirmation last week that it was probing a 'system intrusion' allegedly perpetrated by someone masquerading as a security researcher. Dear Malta Gaming Authority,Yes, I hacked you, and the data obtained has been shared with media partners, authorities,…. And yes, we will expose the organized crime enablement schemes you created while presenting yourselves as a “legitimate public service”. pic.twitter.com/Z7EqRnNbCk — Lilith Wittmann (@LilithWittmann) March 20, 2026 Wittmann stated on X: "Dear Malta Gaming Authority, yes, I breached your systems, and the acquired data has been distributed to media partners, authorities,… "I am convinced that the retrieved information is so crucial for public debate that its acquisition will someday, in the near future, be regarded as a justified necessity. We will uncover the organised crime facilitation schemes you established while portraying yourselves as a 'legitimate public service'." Wittman continued by expressing her hope that German authorities would 'for once, be wise and refrain from extraditing me', cautioning that any intervention by Maltese police would 'prompt the immediate publication of my complete collection of iGaming-related data'. In a statement, the MGA acknowledged awareness of the allegations but dismissed them as 'unsubstantiated' while denouncing any unauthorised intrusion into its systems. Who is Lilith Wittman? Wittman belongs to the Chaos Computer Club, which characterises itself as Europe's largest hacker collective, concentrating on spotlighting technical and social matters such as surveillance, privacy, and information freedom. Previously, the group has uncovered vulnerabilities in Apple's Touch ID and Germany's banking infrastructure, and published the fingerprint of German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble to illustrate the perils of biometric monitoring. In 2021, Wittman, a security researcher based in Berlin, infiltrated the application of Germany's governing political party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), obtaining access to personal details of more than 20,000 CDU members. She also maintains ties to both the gaming sector and Malta. In March 2025, Wittman published a blog entry alleging that information stored by Merkur Group for over one million players was publicly available, encompassing payment details and identification documents. This data pertained to the merkurbets.de, crazybuzzer.de, and slotmagie.de platforms, operated by various Merkur subsidiaries located in Malta and utilising software from the Maltese firm The Mill Adventures. At that time, Wittman alerted the German gaming regulator regarding the breach and expressed her view that security deficiencies in the software employed by The Mill Adventure contributed partially to the incident. On the day of the attack, Merkur acted to remedy the vulnerability and introduce security audits along with supplementary internal protective measures. Taking a more sinister turn In contrast to the Merkur and The Mill Adventure incident, Wittman has rapidly levelled allegations of criminal conduct against the MGA. In reply, the MGA has asserted that it functions within a 'strong legal and regulatory structure'. The regulator continued: "[The MGA] performs its statutory duties with integrity, independence, and accountability. Allegations arising from unauthorised system access are unfounded and do not weaken the MGA's position as a regulator dedicated to transparency, proper procedure, and legal principles. "For over twenty years, the MGA has functioned within recognised legal and governance structures, and will persist in doing so." The MGA characterised Wittman's actions as 'unacceptable and inconsistent with legitimate interaction with public bodies and established governance structures'. Wittman reacted to the statement in a subsequent X post, asserting that assertions of maintaining a strong legal framework would be labelled 'organised crime structures' in other nations. Currently, there is no evidence regarding what data Wittman has accessed, whether she was behind the attack, or what she intends to do with any obtained information. bet365 reveals suppliers poised to succeed in Canada ahead of Alberta launch

(AsiaGameHub) - bet365 has released its February leaderboard for top-performing games across various markets, offering a glimpse into which titles might gain traction in Alberta when the province launches its regulated iGaming market later this year. Although the exact launch date for regulated iGaming in Alberta remains uncertain, the market is expected to follow a similar framework to Ontario, where bet365 already operates. Each market uses an algorithm that considers game revenue, stakes, sessions, and engagement to evaluate the operator's monthly game performance, though popularity differs across regions. February saw significant movement in Ontario, with Games Global's Area Link Bank Boss surging 19 positions from the previous month to claim second place, which pushed the supplier's other title, Area Link Phoenix Firestorm, down to third. Nevertheless, the game failed to overtake Pragmatic Play's Buffalo King Megaways, which held its position as the top-performing title in the province. Games Global's Area Link Phoenix Firestorm held onto second place, while Reel Time Gaming's Eye of Horus ranked third, gaining six positions from January.
